Paediatric First Aid (2 day qualification)


This paediatric First Aid 2 day qualification is an essential course for adults who work in particular settings with babies and younger children.

Firstly, its a mandatory course if you are working towards an Early Years educator qualification.

Additionally, for those responsible for babies and young children in day nurseries, private nursery and pre-school settings, at least one person must have this qualification and, be available when children are on the premises or on outings.

You also need this qualification if you are running, or involved in clubs for, and are responsible for children in the early years age group.

Further, childminders must attend and pass this course prior to being registered.

What’s involved in the paediatric First Aid qualification?

This paediatric First Aid 2 day qualification course is designed to give you a clear understanding of your role and responsibility as a paediatric First Aider and, the skills to act.

Therefore equipping you to respond appropriately to a First Aid incident involving a younger child or baby. This response necessarily at least involving assessing, prioritising and administering aid as necessary.

During the paediatric First Aid course, your trainer will lead discussions in each element of the syllabus in detail. In the same fashion, they explain the First Aid protocols and how to act. The trainer will additionally demonstrate the practical skills.

Following discussions, you and the other delegates then practice childrens First Aid safely within the training room.

So, to summarise,

The paediatric First Aid qualification is a practical course. Your trainer is responsible for developing your knowledge and skill. You must of course, meet the standard to pass and your trainer will assess your progress throughout it. There is additionally, a short written assessment that you complete as well. This is used to confirm the knowledge you acquired on the course.

It is essential that you take an active part in the childrens First Aid practical sessions.

You must also understand at least the basics of the English language and, possess a reasonable level of mobility and fitness.

To illustrate the fitness and mobility element, your trainer assesses you carrying out Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). In short this may involve you kneeling and applying rescue breaths and appropriate chest compressions to one of our manikins for a few minutes.

On successful completion, you gain the Paediatric First Aid (2 day). This is valid for 3 years.

Another key point to remember is that as your trainer ensures they teach both the practical and theory elements of the paediatric First Aid course, all you need therefore is to remain open and commit to learning!
